DAYTONA BEACH — A man who was kicked out of a house party returned to the residence early Friday and opened fire, striking four people, three of them students at nearby Bethune-Cookman University, Daytona Beach police said.
The suspect, Vincent Tyrone Smith, 23, is on the run and investigators said he is considered armed and dangerous.
The shooting occurred around midnight at 338 Henry Butts Drive, police said. When officers arrived at the residence there were about 50 people inside having a party, an incident report shows. Officers noted that there were drops of blood in the driveway leading into the house.
Once inside, the report shows, no one would cooperate with police.
The man who lives at the house, identified as Burton Granger, told police he had left the residence and had just returned five minutes before the shooting.
The individuals shot were identified as B-CU student Reginald Smith, 20, of Jacksonville; B-CU student Frank Thomas, 21, of Jacksonville; B-CU student Darian Baker, 21, of Jacksonville; and Vintoshia Smith, 19, of Daytona Beach. None of the injuries were life-threatening, police said.
Smith, described as 6 feet and 300 pounds, was last seen driving a 2011 Chevy Camaro. Investigators said he could be accompanied by someone driving a black vehicle.
Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Daytona Beach Detective Grant Karcher, 386-671-5211.
This is the second shooting incident this year that has left a group of B-CU students nursing gunshot wounds.
Three students were shot on campus Feb. 23 after being caught in the crossfire of a fight between two factions of South Florida students who attend B-CU.
One of the suspected shooters is Ladell Pleasure, 21, a B-CU student who was arrested last week on a charge of discharging a weapon/firearm on school property. Pleasure is out of jail and the other gunman in that incident has not been identified.
